Pressalit has won a much sought-after international design prize for its Sway D toilet seat – the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2016.
Pressalit, a Danish-owned toilet seat manufacturer, has much to celebrate these days. The design world has come to equate something as understated as a toilet seat with a piece of world-class design. This is great news for Kim Boyter, the company’s CEO, whose vision is to turn the toilet seat into the focal point of the bathroom:
“At Pressalit, we’re constantly working to create great, functional designs. The toilet seat is a natural part of a home’s decor – a statement that expresses a person’s understanding of design. Sway D has been recognised with the prestigious Red Dot Award: Product Design 2016 – and in this regard we are closer to achieving our vision,” Boyter states with pride.
Hitting a bullseye through the eye of a needle
5,214 products, 57 countries and a jury of 41 design experts from around the world. Those were the conditions of the extremely tough competition. In other words, only few are entitled to boast that they have a Red Dot Award. The demands on innovation, quality and functionality are exceptionally high.
“We won. Of course we’re proud – proud of everyone who’s been involved in the development of Sway D – not least our in-house designer, Lars Herold. His sense of simple design, functionality and streamlined elegance has resulted in a Nordic toilet seat with light, clean lines. A refined, decorative and comfortable toilet seat with curves, its simplicity makes it a must-have for a design-savvy user. Countless hours of design work have now been rewarded through this – the greatest recognition we could hope for. It’s well-deserved!” Kim Boyter says.
A refined eye-catcher
There is a particular finesse to the sides of Sway D in the form of the new Pressalit brand element. The element is the hallmark of a uniquely Scandinavian high-quality product, created on the basis of a 60-year history of design. The stainless steel emblem is designed to catch both light and shade, thus becoming a small, living element of the bathroom.
“Sway D is designed for the discerning minimalist. Therefore, it was an obvious choice to integrate a refined eye-catching element into the design. The emblem contains a mixture of convex and concave surfaces, which play with the light really nicely. The high quality of the honing and engraving of the emblem highlights Pressalit’s uncompromising view on quality,” says Lars Herold.
Pressalit on the red carpet
July 4th 2016 will be a day Pressalit is unlikely to forget. Months of anxious waiting will culminate in a glamourous and well-attended award ceremony. Some 1,200 guests will lead the applause when the Pressalit team receives its trophy at the Red Dot Design Museum Essen in Germany. Following the ceremony, Sway D, along with all the other award-winning products, will be presented in the special exhibition “Design on Stage” for four weeks, before becoming part of the permanent exhibition – the world’s biggest modern design collection, visited by over 150,000 design-loving visitors every year.
Pressalit’s Sway D fits a variety of toilets such as the Keramag iCon, Keramag Renova Nr. 1, Sphinx 300 and Sphinx 345. The toilet seat has both soft-close and lift-off, is available in black and white and comes with a 10-year guarantee.
